What I’m Politicing: Did You Folks Catch the “More Retardation” Post About Palin?

2009 July 6

Over at “Huffington Post,” “comic” writer Erik Sean Nelson on Friday, July 3 wrote a post entitled: “Palin Will Run In ‘12 On More Retardation Platform.”  Because the post was tagged Trig, it was an obvious dig at Palin’s handicapped son.  Soon after, Nelson removed the article, claiming: “I removed it immediately because I saw that it did not come across as I intended. I apologize to all of those who were offended.”

“Hot Air,” though, preserved the piece. Here’s a snippet of the Nelson’s post:

In Sarah Palin’s resignation announcement she complained about the treatment of her son Trig who always teaches her life lessons. She said that the “world needs more Trigs, not fewer.” That’s a presidential campaign promise we can all get behind. She will be the first politician to actually try to increase the population of retarded people. To me, it’s kinda like saying the world needs more cancer patients because they teach us such personal lessons.

If you wish, you can read the rest of Nelson’s rantings here.

Lots of conservatives are rightfully angry; I think their anger is misplaced, though.  We’re missing a chance at comic genius: Nelson should hook-up with Pres. Obama before he writes his next piece.
