What I’m Politicing: Obama Doesn’t Know What He’s Doing *Updated*
Holy buckets, folks, President-Elect Obama hasn’t the slightest clue.
I’ve spent the last two weeks or so avoiding the news, visiting with various branches of my family, and playing catch up with dear friends. I’d check Drudge every other day or so to be sure that the world wasn’t ending. I’d turn on MSNBC to make sure that Keith Olbermann was still a pompous ass, and I’d check FOX News to be sure that Sean Hannity was still, as Dad says, a bunch of clichés. Other than that, though, I didn’t really consume much news.
Yesterday, I downloaded my Maha Rushie podcasts, started readings articles on Drudge, and turned on the cable news chorus. I gagged on my morning coffee at this headline: “Obama warns of dire consequences without stimulus.”
FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) – President-elect Barack Obama warned of dire and long-lasting consequences if Congress doesn’t pump unprecedented dollars into the national economy, making an urgent pitch Thursday for his mammoth spending proposal in his first speech since the election.
“In short, a bad situation could become dramatically worse” if Washington doesn’t go far enough to address the spreading crisis, the Democrat said as fresh economic reports showed an outlook growing increasingly grim.
Since his November election, Obama has deferred to President George W. Bush on foreign policy matters such as the Middle East. But, with the worsening of the economic situation, Obama has waded deeply into domestic issues as he works to generate support for his plan to create jobs and jolt the economy into recovery.
In the speech at George Mason University outside Washington, Obama asked Congress to work with him “day and night, on weekends if necessary” to pass a revival plan within the next few weeks so that it can be ready for his signature shortly after he takes office on Jan. 20.
WHAT?!?
I swear that I’ve seen neater piles of shit in my Momma’s barn yard.
I thought that back in October/November our esteemed leaders in Washington told us that the first bagillion dollar bailout plan was going to fix the economy? All of our congressmen, on the left and the right, told us that unless we ponyed up the cash for a bailout, the economy was going to disappear into a vacuum.
So they passed that bailout, and what happened? Economic numbers got even worse.
And so the Lord Messiah, Most Merciful Barack Obama ibn Obama (peace be upon him) has decided to do the exact same thing that didn’t work last October. Hell, government intervention hasn’t worked every single time it’s been tried. We’re still working through the sheer brilliance that was the New Deal…
You know what would “fix” this “problem” of the economy? Nothing. That’s right, folks, NOTHING!
If you have a basic understanding of free-market economies, one thing you will know is that there are cycles in economies. It’s natural for markets to move up and down. In other words, you cannot fix something if it is not broken. The previous congressional bailout plans and Barack’s proposed plan are not fixes; these proposals are the problems.
It is as though our Brilliant Leaders stumbled across a tree in October. Noticing the red, yellow, and orange leaves on the branches and the crunchy foliage underfoot, our Brilliant Leaders decide to draft a proposal to spend one trillion dollars to fix this looming problem of Seasonal Foliage Discoloration.
If the Lord Messiah, Most Merciful Barack Obama ibn Obama (peace be upon him) and our Brilliant Leaders really wanted to “fix” the economy, they would do nothing. Nothing at all. Since I am sure that our Brilliant Leaders are aware of the basics of free market economics, I am left with two conclusions.
One, the Lord Messiah, Most Merciful Barack Obama ibn Obama (peace be upon him) and our Brilliant Leaders are indeed this blindingly dumb. They are indeed so unaware of how markets work, they are so brainwashed by New Deal-era socialism that they cannot fathom that they are indeed the problem. So they keep chugging along as though they are fixing things, and continue to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Two, the Lord Messiah, Most Merciful Barack Obama ibn Obama (peace be upon him) and our Brilliant Leaders are brilliant. They are indeed knowledgeable about economics, and they are aware that every new dime they spend since the October bailout is another nail in the coffin of our free-market economy. Our Brilliant Leaders are reveling in all this made-up crisis; indeed, as Rahm Immanuel has said, “You never want a good crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” In other words, they break the free-markets and use socialism to patch up the wounds.
In either case, I’m a bit frightened. Whether my leaders are dumb or “brilliant,” I’m screwed.
Update.
So according to the Lord Messiah, Most Merciful Barack Obama ibn Obama (peace be upon him) taxing and government spending are “solutions.” I wish we could see all the taxes we pay on a day-to-day basis:
Let’s not forget Ayn Rand’s description of American history: “America’s abundance was created not by public sacrifices to the common good, but by the productive genius of free men who pursued their own personal interests and the making of their own private fortunes.”

I think you should go back to your momma’s barn yard …
“If you have a basic understanding of free-market economies, one thing you will know is that there are cycles in economies. It’s natural for markets to move up and down. ”
Actually, this also is mostly due to government interventionism. Before governments started meddling with the economy, there was mainly only short recessions and things usually returned to “normal” quickly.

Thanks, Gilmour! I appreciate your measured criticism about my post. Keep up the great work!

Hpx83,
You are exactly correct!
That was indeed my larger point, however clumsily I tried to express it. The only reason we have a “crisis” right now is because of government intervention in the free market. Recessions become longer and more protracted when the government steps in to “fix” the economy (i.e. play God).
Thanks for your comment!
