Welcome! Here's what's up:
Dear Husband (cosbysweater08) crafted a pretty damning analysis of the WHO stats showing the US ranked 37th in health care. I think you should read it!The last two weeks of September have found Dear Husband and I quite busy. Finish up one project, only to find out that you’re behind on another. Further, the weather has been too lovely to stay inside blogging in the afternoons/evenings. (Now, if I could just find someone to pay me to sip coffee, wear PJs, and comment on the news via my blog all day…?) Catching up on Entourage and Californication have eaten into blogging time, too.
So, just a little note to say that if you’re missing all the vitriol, hate, and right-wing bigotry featured here on a semi-regular basis, then don’t worry: we’ll BRB soon. I’ve been working on a series of posts about Christian marriage, the silliness of marriage contracts, and why no government can legitimately “deny” marriage to certain folks because of their sexual preferences. I’ve had to brush up on my Martin Luther to write it. Nothing like reading a cranky old German.
What I’m Reading: The Mad Professor… Physicist? Space/Time Traveler?
An old Harper’s magazine article found it’s way to the BoingBoing blog. Enticed by the headline “The Jet-Propelled Couch,” this scifi fan clicked the link. I can only hope that my words here will do the same for you.
Nice work, Leno.
I’m still a Conan fan, though. PALE FORCE!
[Update/Edit: For some reason, OpenCongress.org is linking to this post on the HR 45 page. I have written about HR 45 - that's over here.]
Ever start to type a post, and then read where someone else has written what you wanted to say, only with more clarity and skill?
Reflections on manners and a church potluck.
After listening to pundits decry this weekend’s protesters as racist, after reading comments suggesting that these protesters should just go home since they’re willfully ignorant, after hear some talk radio folks claim that this comparison of the president to Hitler is unprecedented, I thought it was high time to introduce my (dear and few!) readers to zombietime.
In a move that’s sure to bring all the comment lurkers out of the shadows, Constant Conservative is giving away a $25 gift certificate to celebrate the blog’s one year anniversary!
As I noted on Friday, the Constant Conservative has been contributing to the discussion for one year now. In honor of this event, we will give one of our readers a $25 gift code from a well-known online retailer of books, electronics, and just about everything else. How better to show our appreciation? (Sure, I could think of several, but that’s not the point.)
I would participate, but he’s not giving away Killian’s.
Also, I suggest that you purchase Thomas Sowell’s Basic Economics if you win!

Round-up of the good, the bad, and the ugly 9/12 mob this weekend. Be sure you scroll to the bottom of the post for the NRO photos.
Correcting wrong headed ideas about Pres. Obama and H.R. 45.
Last summer, I mentioned my joy at discovering iTunes U: a section of the iTunes store devoted to giving away free lectures from top notch universities around the globe. I’d like to point out a few others online sources for learning that I’ve been using lately. Most everyone who stops by here seems interested in issues or ideas, and so these online source might be of interest.
The blogging topic for the day seems to be September 11.
